Improving Driving Behavior and Reducing Boom Swing Angles for Improved Efficiency at the Mining Site for a large Indian Chromite Mining company.
Challenge
Problem:
During our visit to the client’s chromite mining site, we found that the drivers operate the machine consistently below the industry benchmark of 20-25 kmph, significantly impacting the overall operational efficiency. Furthermore, their braking and acceleration patterns exhibited alarming levels of aggressiveness, while their gear-shifting patterns proved to be erratic and inconsistent.
The issues extended beyond the operators to the excavators as well. The boom swing angles of the excavators were observed to exceed the recommended ±45 degrees, leading to excessive diesel consumption. Moreover, the excavators required a staggering 25-30% more bucket passes to adequately fill the dump truck due to poor and inconsistent bucket fill efficiency.
